Solstice Chronicles: MIA

Sometimes, something interesting pops up in my email, and this foul mouthed 10 second ad had me cracking up. My aiming impaired butt won’t mind giving this a go.

This will be available on PC & PS4 later this year. According to its FIA page, it will also be available on Mac & Linux. This is a spin-off of kickstarter funded The Red Solstice. You can register for the closed Alpha on their site.

Okay, this dude’s commentary didn’t really liven things up, ironically, he’s an aspiring voice actor.

Everspace

Granted, I don’t play rogue-like games, I’m really intrigued by this one. I was hooked once I realised it was a space shooter.

Now, I’m sure you’re wondering why am I still writing about this, when it looks like it will not be getting a PS4 release? I did ask Evolve, who handle the title’s PR and I was told that the PS4 version is planned for release later this year.

Everspace was released on Steam’s early access last year, hence why there are older reviews & Let’s Plays on YouTube.

I was considering making a The Hype article on it, since it is appears to be receiving really high reviews on both PC & Xbox One, but I’ll wait and make one on The Surge instead.

It’s always nice to see a successful Kickstarter game.

Oh…Sir! The Insult Simulator Review (PS4)

Earlier today, at 0207…yes, that’s AM…I decided to buy this on PSN and then proceeded to play it for 7 hours. Yup. Seven. Hours. As a connoisseur of insults, I was intrigued by the game and I’m not going to lie, the potential of an easy platinum.

But, before you go rushing for that easy platinum, it could take a while, ’cause you’ll have to grind, thanks to the sheer randomness of the phrases, both in its frequency and actual randomness. Also, certain phrases only appear in certain places. For example, anything pertaining to animals only appears in the Pet Shop.

Let’s talk about the multiplayer, this can be quite the interesting challenge, since human beings can be quite tricky. You’d be surprised how easy it is to make a mistake or lose your train of thought when your opponent picks a word that you needed. Or when you try to be sneaky and it backfires. I did find it difficult to get players sometimes and ended up playing against the same players, but that could simply be because the player base is low and I was playing in the wee hours of the morning. The title also supports cross play multiplayer and local multiplayer.

The one major flaw – it’s very repetitive. Every location has the same location-specific intro and outro. So even though I cheered when the Monty Python skit was recreated, I got tired of it by the third time I heard it.

But, it really is fun crafting the insults, hence why I was able to put in those 7 hours. I know I had a good shout at around 0300 when I made a mistake and then had to clamp my mouth shut. It’s fun factor really makes me forgive the QA bugs that popped up during my gameplay. Plus, it’s a cheap.

For me, the fun, absurdity and sheer randomness of the crafted insults work for me and the fact that I can get HP Lovecraft to say “Cthulhu”, “Overwatch” and “Star Wars” in the same sentence just makes me really happy.

Price: £1.99 (PS+), £2.49. The PS+ price ends on 07/06/2017 at 2359.

Final Verdict:

3 out of 5

Warning: It Gets Boring After An Hour and The Number of the Beast trophies might be glitched.
